Fungus with a cap up to 8 cm. Grows in fields and in conifers. Spore print white. Lives in symbiosis with tree roots: the fungus brings water and minerals, the tree feeds it sugars.
There are 11 observations of Ringless Panther in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Laurentides and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and it has been reported in 5 of the 17 regions.
