Privacy policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Kebnat is free, with no account, no ads and no analytics. Identification happens on your device: your photos and sounds never leave it.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. The website and the app ask for no account, no name and no email address, and set no cookies. They contain no ads and no analytics tools.
On the website
The photos and sounds you drop are analysed in your browser. They are never sent to a server.
Your browser keeps three things, on your device only: your appearance choice (light or dark), the downloaded identification models (so they are not downloaded on every visit) and, while you move from the home page to the Identify page, the files you just dropped — deleted as soon as that page has picked them up. You can clear all of it in your browser settings.
“Locate me”, on the map, asks your browser for your location. It is only used to place your dot on the map: it is neither sent nor stored.
In the app
The app asks for the camera, the microphone and your location only when you use them. Everything is processed on your phone.
Your observations, your notebook and your place stay on your phone. The app’s only Internet connection is downloading the species page photos, when you ask for it.
Hosting
The website and the downloadable files (models, species page photos) are served by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare receives the technical data of each request, including the IP address and browser type, to deliver and protect the service. This data may be processed outside Québec. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Links to other websites
Credits lead to the original photos, sounds and texts (iNaturalist, Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia…). Those websites have their own privacy rules.
Your rights and questions
Since we keep no personal information about you, there is nothing to access, correct or delete on our side. For any question or complaint, write to the person in charge below. You can also contact the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
Person in charge
Person in charge of the protection of personal information: the founder of Kebnat, at info@kebnat.com.
