Fungus with a cap up to 8 cm. Grows in conifers and in forests. Spore print white. Feeds on decaying organic matter.
There are 16 observations of Cinnabar Powdercap in Québec, mostly in Nord-du-Québec, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Lanaudière, and it has been reported in 8 of the 17 regions. They peak in August and September and become rare from November to July.
