Fungus. Grows in forests. Spore print brown. Feeds on decaying organic matter.
There are 35 observations of Candlesnuff fungus in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Montréal and Outaouais, and it has been reported in 9 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and become rare from September to May.
