Perennial herbaceous plant. Grows in mountains and on the tundra.

There are 9 observations of Falkland Island sedge in Québec, mostly in Nord-du-Québec and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, and it has been reported in 2 of the 17 regions.
