Perennial herbaceous plant reaching 2.4 m. Grows in marshes.

There are 1,076 observations of Common cowparsnip in Québec, mostly in Côte-Nord, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Bas-Saint-Laurent, and it has been reported in 16 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and July and become rare from October to April.
