Perennial herbaceous plant reaching 6–47 cm. Grows in forests.
There are 80 observations of Hairy woodrush in Québec, mostly in Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches and Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and it has been reported in 11 of the 17 regions. They peak in May and become rare from July to March.
