Perennial herbaceous plant. Grows in conifers and in forests.

There are 175 observations of Green-flowered wintergreen in Québec, mostly in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and it has been reported in 14 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and July and become rare from October to April.
