Perennial climbing plant. Grows near water and in forests.

There are 426 observations of Smooth carrionflower in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Outaouais and Capitale-Nationale, and it has been reported in 12 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and become rare from November to April.
