Perennial herbaceous plant reaching 1–2 m. Grows in fields and in forests.
There are 365 observations of Canada goldenrod in Québec, mostly in Montréal, Montérégie and Capitale-Nationale, and it has been reported in 15 of the 17 regions. They peak in August and September and become rare from November to June.
