Reptile. Lives near water and in marshes. Feeds on animal prey.

There are 486 observations of Common Watersnake in Québec, mostly in Outaouais, Laurentides and Montérégie, and it has been reported in 9 of the 17 regions. They peak in September and become rare from October to April.
