Annual herbaceous plant reaching 10–16 cm. Grows in marshes.

There are 145 observations of Bearded flatsedge in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Outaouais and Estrie, and it has been reported in 10 of the 17 regions. They peak in August and September and become rare from November to June.
