Perennial shrub 10 cm long. Grows in thickets and in mountains.

There are 750 observations of Shrubby cinquefoil in Québec, mostly in Nord-du-Québec, Côte-Nord and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in July and August and become rare from November to May.
