Perennial herbaceous plant. Grows in fields and in marshes.

There are 157 observations of Fewnerved cottongrass in Québec, mostly in Côte-Nord, Chaudière-Appalaches and Nord-du-Québec, and it has been reported in 12 of the 17 regions. They peak in July and August and become rare from October to May.
