Perennial herbaceous plant. Introduced to Québec. Grows in conifers and in marshes. Flowers from July to September.

There are 368 observations of European bugleweed in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Capitale-Nationale and Montréal, and it has been reported in 12 of the 17 regions. They peak in August and September and become rare from November to May.
