Bird 24–33 cm long. Migratory. Lives in fields and in marshes. Feeds on animal prey. Forages in flight. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.
There are 24,101 observations of Merlin in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Capitale-Nationale, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in August and September and become rare from November to February.
