Bird weighing 330 g. Present year-round. Lives in conifers and in mountains. Feeds on animal prey. Forages in the trees. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.

There are 137 observations of Northern Hawk-Owl in Québec, mostly in Capitale-Nationale, Chaudière-Appalaches and Outaouais, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in January and become rare from April to October.
