Bird 33–43 cm long. Migratory. Lives in marshes and in fields. Feeds on animal prey. Forages in flight. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.
There are 2,177 observations of Short-eared Owl in Québec, mostly in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Montérégie and Bas-Saint-Laurent, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in January and February, but it is reported every month.
