Mammal 30–50 cm long. Active day and night. Lives in marshes and near water. Feeds on animal prey and dead animals. Forages on the ground. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.
There are 347 observations of North American River Otter in Québec, mostly in Outaouais, Montérégie and Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in March, April and August, but it is reported every month.
