Fungus with a cap of 5–13 cm. Grows in conifers and in forests. Feeds on decaying organic matter.
There are 36 observations of Inky mushroom in Québec, mostly in Montréal, Montérégie and Outaouais, and it has been reported in 9 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and August and become rare from October to May.
