Perennial herbaceous plant reaching 85 cm. Grows in mountains and on the tundra. Green flowers, from June to August.
There are 189 observations of Common mare's-tail in Québec, mostly in Nord-du-Québec, Côte-Nord and Bas-Saint-Laurent, and it has been reported in 13 of the 17 regions. They peak in July and August and become rare from October to May.
