Perennial herbaceous plant. Grows in marshes.

There are 254 observations of American marshpennywort in Québec, mostly in Estrie, Montérégie and Capitale-Nationale, and it has been reported in 13 of the 17 regions. They peak in July and August and become rare from November to April.
