Perennial herbaceous plant reaching 30 cm. Grows in forests and in conifers.

There are 3,157 observations of Cloudberry in Québec, mostly in Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and it has been reported in 10 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and July and become rare from October to May.
