Bird weighing 11–20 g. Present year-round. Lives in fields and in urban areas. Feeds on seeds. Forages in the trees. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.
There are 86,362 observations of American Goldfinch in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Estrie and Capitale-Nationale, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in April, May and August, but it is reported every month.
