Annual herbaceous plant reaching 1.1 m. Introduced to Québec. Grows in fields and in urban areas. Yellow flowers, from May to June.

There are 92 observations of Italian ryegrass in Québec, mostly in Capitale-Nationale, Estrie and Chaudière-Appalaches, and it has been reported in 12 of the 17 regions. They peak in June and July and become rare from October to May.
