Bird 14–17 cm long. Migratory. Lives in thickets. Feeds on aquatic prey — fish, crustaceans, molluscs. Forages on the ground. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.
There are 49 observations of Western Sandpiper in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Estrie and Capitale-Nationale, and it has been reported in 10 of the 17 regions.
