Bird 15–20 cm long. Present year-round and migratory. Lives in forests and in conifers. Feeds on seeds, insects, plants and a living host, at its expense. Forages on the ground. The male and the female do not look alike. That is often what explains two very different birds in photos of the same species.

There are 17,912 observations of Brown-headed Cowbird in Québec, mostly in Montérégie, Estrie and Chaudière-Appalaches, and it has been reported in every region. They peak in April and May and become rare from August to March.
